Stephen Graham says Heat 2 filming expected to start in January
The actor, set to play Neil McCauley, said the shoot has slipped again after Michael Mann's sequel was previously moved from August to November.
Filming on Heat 2 is now expected to begin in January, according to Stephen Graham, who said he plans to start shooting the Michael Mann film at the start of next year. The actor's remarks were reported by collider.com.
The January window is later than the November start that had previously been planned. Mann had first intended to shoot the film in August, before that date was pushed to November.
Heat 2 is both a sequel and a prequel to Mann's 1995 film Heat, and is based on the 2022 novel Mann wrote with Meg Gardiner. Graham is set to play Neil McCauley, the character Robert De Niro originated in the original film.
The project also changed studios during its development. In October 2025, Warner Bros. balked at the proposed budget for the film, and Amazon MGM Studios picked up the project instead.
Heat was released in 1995, and audiences have waited more than 30 years for a follow-up.
