IDW to Reprint 1967 Gold Key Star Trek #1 as Facsimile Edition
Star Trek: Gold Key Era #1 reproduces the first Gold Key Star Trek comic and arrives with two covers, including a foil variant.
IDW Publishing has announced Star Trek: Gold Key Era #1, a facsimile reprint of the first Gold Key Star Trek comic from 1967, as part of its February solicitations, according to screenrant.com. The book reproduces the debut issue of the publisher's long-running Star Trek line.
The reprint will be released with two different covers. One of them is a foil variant of the original cover art.
The original Star Trek #1 was written by Dick Wood and drawn by Nevio Zeccara, whose work is reproduced in the facsimile edition.
A license that moved between publishers
Star Trek premiered in America on September 8, 1966, and tie-in media began appearing within a year of the show's debut. Gold Key Comics secured the rights to Star Trek and held the license for over a decade, through the show's cancellation in 1969.
Marvel, DC and most recently IDW have all held the rights to make Star Trek comics at some point. IDW previously released a series of trade collections of the Gold Key run, though that line was never finished.
