It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 Half-Scripted, Set in 1935

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane says the HBO series moves to the Great Depression for Season 2, with a different kind of Pennywise and a bigger scope.

Brad Caleb Kane, showrunner of It: Welcome to Derry, said Season 2 of the HBO series is about halfway through scripting and will be set in 1935 during the Great Depression, according to Deadline. The season centers on the Bradley Gang massacre in Derry.

Kane said the new season will feature a different kind of Pennywise and will be bigger than Season 1. Bill Skarsgård plays Pennywise.

Season 2 has already been greenlit and has a production schedule in place, with Andy Muschietti casting for the season.

The first season was set in 1962. Its finale drew a series-high audience of 6.5 million U.S. users in its first three days. The show was renewed for Season 2 in August, with Kane taking over sole showrunner duties.

Each season goes back another 27 years to match Pennywise's appearances in the town, and the Bradley Gang massacre appears in Stephen King's 1986 novel It. Kane's Peacock series Crystal Lake, a Friday the 13th prequel, is now available to stream.
