It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 Starts Shooting Next Summer

Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane says Season 2 is being written now, with filming set for next summer and a possible late 2027 or 2028 debut on HBO.

Production on Season 2 of "It: Welcome to Derry" will begin next summer, showrunner and executive producer Brad Caleb Kane said. Kane also said the season is actively being written, according to comingsoon.net, though HBO has not announced an official release date.

Based on that production schedule, the new season could arrive in late 2027 or sometime in 2028. Kane will serve as the sole showrunner for Season 2, after co-showrunning Season 1 with Jason Fuchs.

Kane said the season is set twenty-seven years before the events of Season 1, in Depression-era America. It features new kids, new characters, and maybe some old characters, along with "the same old Pennywise." Kane added that the upcoming season will be as terrifying as Season 1, if not more.

Bill Skarsgård is returning as Pennywise the Clown. Andy and Barbara Muschietti, who directed the two "It" films, are executive producers on Season 2, alongside Kane and other executive producers.

HBO renewed the series for a second season in August 2025. "It: Welcome to Derry" is a prequel to the films "It" and "It Chapter Two," based on Stephen King's 1986 novel "It."
