Kane: 'IT: Welcome to Derry' Season 2 Offers a Different Pennywise
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane says writing on season two is about halfway done, with Andy Muschietti now casting the 1935-set season.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane said season two of IT: Welcome to Derry will present Bill Skarsgård as a kind of Pennywise audiences have not seen before, and that writing on the season is about halfway complete. Kane made the comments to Deadline, as reported by Bloody Disgusting.
Kane said the new season is set in 1935, during the Great Depression, and follows the Bradley Gang Massacre from Stephen King's IT novel. He described the season as a Warner Bros. gangster movie, citing bank robbers, Hoovervilles, street urchins riding the rails and religious fundamentalism.
The season has been greenlit, and Andy Muschietti, a producer and developer on the series, is casting, according to Kane.
Where the series has been before
Season one was set in 1962. The 2017 film IT took place in 1989, and 2019's IT: Chapter Two was set in 2016. Season one's opening credits depicted the Black Spot Massacre, the Bradley Gang Massacre and the Kitchener Iron Works explosion; Muschietti has previously said season three would show the Kitchener Iron Works explosion during an Easter egg hunt.
