Jaafar Jackson wraps Will Smith film "Supermax" in Australia

The "Michael" star says he finished about 40 days of shooting on his second film two days before speaking to Variety, and did no singing or dancing in it.

Jaafar Jackson has finished shooting his second film, "Supermax", opposite Will Smith in Australia, he told Variety. The actor said he wrapped the project two days before the interview, after about 40 days of shooting.

Jackson said he neither danced nor sang in "Supermax", a change of register from his debut. That debut, Antoine Fuqua's "Michael", has crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office, according to Jackson, and outgrossed "Bohemian Rhapsody". He described it as the first biopic to pass $1 billion worldwide and Lionsgate's biggest release ever.

"Michael" opened on April 24. Before it, Jackson had never acted professionally. He prepared for the role over two years, working with acting coach Angela Gibbs and sending producer Graham King an unsolicited voice note in character as Michael.

Two years before filming began, Jackson wrote a list of goals that included beating "Bohemian Rhapsody" and crossing $1 billion worldwide. The film closes with him performing the footwork for "Bad". Colman Domingo plays his grandfather and Nia Long plays his grandmother Katherine.

Jackson's father, Jermaine, first watched the film at its Berlin premiere.
