Jakarta Summit Opens With Pitch to Build Regional Film Hub

Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo cited 5.52% growth and 93% transit coverage as he opened the Jakarta Film Summit 2026, which runs through Oct. 22.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo opened the Jakarta Film Summit 2026 on Tuesday at the Royal Glass House at Park Hyatt Jakarta, presenting the city as a prospective regional film hub and naming Busan as a model to follow.

In his remarks, the governor pointed to infrastructure, the local economy and public transit as the city's advantages. He cited 5.52% economic growth, 2.7% inflation, a rise from 17th to 15th in a global transport ranking and a transit network that connects 93% of the city.

The summit is hosted by the Jakarta Film Commission with Badan Perfilman Indonesia and runs through Oct. 22. More than 500 attendees from 10 countries and 40 speakers are taking part, according to Variety.

The first two days cover production policy, filming permits, incentives, financing and investment, and an ASEAN Film Alliance Network panel examined talent development, fundraising and regional co-productions.

Funding sessions and location scouting

Sessions on Oct. 21 focus on funding readiness, the role of banks and audience data for risk assessment. A session called "The Two Cities" will pair Jakarta with Hong Kong to explore cooperation.

The final day, Jakarta Scouting Day, will take participants to Pasar Rumput, Muara Angke Harbor, Kota Tua and the Bundaran HI Skydeck. Fauzan Zidni, chair of Badan Perfilman Indonesia, said the summit shows local government can be a strategic partner for the film industry.
