Jakarta World Cinema 2026 Expands to Bandung and Malang

Jakarta World Cinema announced its 2026 program on Thursday, revealing that Cristian Mungiu's Fjord will open the festival. The film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes this year. The Indonesian premiere of Banjong Pisanthanakun's Inherit will close the event.
For the first time, the festival will expand outside Jakarta. The main run takes place at CGV Grand Indonesia from Oct. 31 to Nov. 7. Parallel editions will follow at CGV Paris Van Java in Bandung and Cinepolis Malang Town Square in Malang from Nov. 14 to Nov. 21.
An online selection will be available via KlikFilm from Oct. 31 to Nov. 21, extending the festival's reach beyond physical venues.
Tudor Vladimir Panduru, cinematographer of Fjord, will attend and lead a masterclass, according to the festival announcement reported by Variety.

The 2026 edition follows a strong year for festival cinema. May el-Toukhy's Woman Unknown took the Golden Lion at Venice this year, while Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor's NAZA won the Venice Special Jury Prize.
