James McAvoy Says He Pitched a Young Picard Star Trek Miniseries

The actor told the Happy Sad Confused podcast that his standalone season, apparently titled Mutiny on the Stargazer, nearly got made.

James McAvoy has revealed that he pitched a Star Trek prequel miniseries centered on a young Jean-Luc Picard, apparently titled Mutiny on the Stargazer. The actor made the comments on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with host Josh Horowitz, according to slashfilm.com.

McAvoy described the proposal as a one-off, standalone season exploring Picard's early career. He said the project nearly happened.

As outlined by McAvoy, the series would have focused on Picard's first captaincy aboard the Stargazer and a secret he kept throughout his career.

The character of Picard was famously played by Patrick Stewart across Star Trek: The Next Generation and later in Star Trek: Picard, which ran for three seasons on Paramount+ and concluded with a reunion of The Next Generation crew.

McAvoy previously played a younger version of another established character, Charles Xavier, in the 2011 film X-Men: First Class.
