Jamie Dornan Says Taking Aragorn From Viggo Mortensen Carries Pressure
The actor told L'Officiel he will do his best in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum but is not trying to outdo Viggo Mortensen.
Jamie Dornan has spoken publicly for the first time about taking over the role of Aragorn from Viggo Mortensen in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, telling L'Officiel that he feels the weight of following in Mortensen's footsteps and will do his best in the part.
Dornan said Aragorn will always be Mortensen for him, and that he is not trying to outdo the earlier performance. Mortensen played the character from 2001 to 2003 in Peter Jackson's trilogy, taking the role after Stuart Townsend departed the production.
His co-star Leo Woodall, who plays the Dúnadan Ranger Halvard, backed the casting, saying that his Aragorn is now Jamie Dornan.
Andy Serkis directs The Hunt for Gollum, with Jackson returning as a producer. Jackson said the film is almost finished shooting, with about two weeks of filming left.
Set between two birthdays
The story takes place during the 17-year gap between Bilbo Baggins' birthday and Frodo's departure from the Shire. The film is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
The earlier trilogy grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide and won 17 Academy Awards from 30 nominations.
