Tranter Urges TV Creators to Build Empathy in MIA Keynote

Bad Wolf CEO Jane Tranter told MIA Market in Rome that a three-part Christmas special of The Other Bennet Sister has been ordered.

Jane Tranter, CEO and co-founder of Bad Wolf, used a keynote at MIA Market in Rome this week to call on television makers to tell stories that make the world more empathetic, according to Deadline.

Tranter pointed to Mary, the protagonist of The Other Bennet Sister played by Ella Bruccoleri, as an example of an outcast character. She said a three-part Christmas special of the drama has been ordered.

She also described how the death of James Gandolfini paused production on The Night Of, and how John Turturro later took over the role of John Stone.

Tranter said her experience on The Night Of influenced her decision to launch a production studio in Wales.

Earlier context

Gandolfini died unexpectedly in 2013, putting The Night Of on hold; the series, based on the BBC's Criminal Justice, went on to win five Emmy awards in 2016. In June, Bad Wolf and showrunner Russell T. Davies exited Doctor Who, and the show returns in 2028.
