Julianne Moore Takes Zurich Golden Icon Award

Julianne Moore accepted the Golden Icon Award at the Zurich Film Festival on Friday night, delivering her acceptance speech in German. The actress told the audience she had lived in Germany as a teenager, where a teacher first told her she could become an actress.

Moore was joined at the ceremony by Jesse Eisenberg, who directs her in The Debut, a musical-comedy co-starring Paul Giamatti that is screening at the 22nd edition of the festival. In the film, Moore plays Mona Friedman, a housewife who becomes a zealous method actor at a community theater, while Giamatti plays the show's domineering director.

The project marks Eisenberg's third directorial feature and reunites him with Moore, who starred in his directorial debut, When You Finish Saving the World, in 2022. Moore won an Academy Award for Still Alice, and her recent credits include Echo Valley, The Room Next Door and Sirens. She will star in the title role of the Off-Broadway play Faydra next year.

McDonagh and Hiddleston Also Honored

Martin McDonagh received Zurich's A Tribute To... Award on Friday night, celebrating his film Wild Horse Nine. The film stars John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell as CIA partners stationed in Santiago shortly before the 1973 military coup in Chile, with Steve Buscemi playing bureau chief MJ.

Tom Hiddleston received the Golden Eye award on Thursday night as the festival opened, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
