K7 Media Study Flags Horror as Taiwan-Indonesia Link
A K7 Media study presented at Taiwan Creative Content Fest found horror is the strongest genre link between Taiwanese and Indonesian producers.
K7 Media presented a study of the Indonesian film and television market at Taiwan Creative Content Fest in Taipei on November 6, 2026, identifying horror as a natural area of collaboration between Taiwanese and Indonesian producers. The presentation was delivered by Trang Nguyen, according to Variety.
The study reports that Indonesia's box office revenue reached $352.9 million in 2025, with a 5.1% compound annual growth rate that outpaces the Asia-Pacific average of 4.3%. Indonesian titles accounted for 201 of the year's releases, or 43%, and took 64% of admissions with 82.6 million tickets sold; the 100 U.S. releases that year drew 36.9 million admissions.
Five of the 10 most-attended Indonesian films since 2011 are horror pictures, the study found. The presentation cited The Rope Curse 4 as a recent Taiwan-Indonesia collaboration.
Indonesian films with more than 10 million admissions include Agak Laen: Menyala Pantiku!, Jumbo and KKN di Desa Penari, which was released in 2022. On the streaming side, Korean shows made up 50% of Netflix Indonesia's top 50 most-watched titles between January and September 2026.
