Shannon Tindle will direct the animated prequel. Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo wrote the script.
Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, Chad Stahelski of 87Eleven Entertainment and Reeves produce the film, joined by Point Grey.
Lionsgate announced the animated project in 2025, with Adam Fogelson, the studio's motion picture chair, praising Tindle's take on the story.
The John Wick franchise has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide across five films, including the Ana de Armas-led spinoff Ballerina. A fifth live-action John Wick film and a standalone film about Donnie Yen's character Caine are in development.
