NBC is developing a drama series titled Pops, with Kelsey Grammer set to star and executive produce, according to Deadline. The project is written by Danny Weiss, a longtime writer-producer on Chicago Med.
Grammer plays the title character, a man who starts a new career in emergency medicine alongside first responders half his age.
The project is based on the true-life story of Ed Levien, a Maryland resident who became a volunteer EMT in his 60s after a career in advertising. Nicknamed "Pops" by younger co-workers, Levien spent 12 years as an EMT until returning last fall at age 76.
Weiss and Levien executive produce Pops alongside Grammer and Jordan McMahon via Grammnet NH Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind Pops.
