Kelsey Grammer stars in NBC drama Pops

NBC is developing Pops, a drama starring and executive produced by Kelsey Grammer, written by Chicago Med's Danny Weiss.

NBC is developing a drama series titled Pops, with Kelsey Grammer set to star and executive produce, according to Deadline. The project is written by Danny Weiss, a longtime writer-producer on Chicago Med.

Grammer plays the title character, a man who begins a new career in emergency medicine alongside first responders half his age.

The series is based on the true-life story of Ed Levien, a Maryland resident who became a volunteer EMT in his 60s after a career in advertising. Nicknamed "Pops" by younger co-workers, he spent 12 years as an EMT until returning last fall at age 76.

Weiss and Levien executive produce Pops alongside Grammer and Jordan McMahon via Grammnet NH Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.

Grammer was a fixture on NBC for more than two decades, playing Dr. Frasier Crane across Cheers, Frasier and Wings. The role earned him four of his five Emmys, and he recently revisited it for Paramount+'s Frasier revival. Weiss spent 10 seasons on NBC/Universal TV's Chicago Med, rising from staff writer to co-executive producer.
