Taika Waititi's 'Klara and the Sun' Opens at 25% on Rotten Tomatoes
The Kazuo Ishiguro adaptation earns the lowest critics' score of Waititi's career in its first round of reviews, and the second-lowest of Jenna Ortega's.
'Klara and the Sun', directed by Taika Waititi, has debuted with a 25% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes after its first round of reviews, according to Collider. It is the lowest score of any film Waititi has directed.
The film stars Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Mia Tharia, Aran Murphy, Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne, and is based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. The 25% mark is also the second-lowest of Ortega's career.
The result arrives as Ortega's recent film work has drawn weak reviews. In October 2025, with the exception of 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice', titles including 'Death of a Unicorn', 'Miller's Girl', 'Winter Spring Summer or Fall' and 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' were panned by critics.
At the end of last month, production was completed on the third season of 'Wednesday', the series starring Ortega.
