Kung Fu Deadly Sets Wider Spring Release After Festival Run

The Irish supernatural action comedy, directed by Fergal Costello, will expand its distribution this spring following screenings at Fantastic Fest and Sitges.

Kung Fu Deadly will get a wider distribution plan this spring, the filmmakers announced after the film's run on the festival circuit. The Irish supernatural action comedy has screened at Fantastic Fest in Austin and at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain.

The film follows Danny and Frank, two exterminators in Dublin who battle a supernatural evil. Steven He plays Danny and Michael Tient plays Frank. Fergal Costello directed, and Shing-Fung Cheung served as cinematographer.

The production was Ireland's first to be powered by green hydrogen fuel cells instead of diesel, according to the filmmakers.

Two decades from idea to screen

Paddy McDonald, who wrote the film, came across the original idea about 20 years ago with Irish writer Paul Markey. Development properly began in 2011 while McDonald was living in Australia. After moving back to Ireland a couple of years ago, he did a page-one rewrite of the script.

The wider release plan was reported by Variety.
