Effects supervisor Steve Emerson detailed the stop-motion film's production statistics at the View Conference in Turin, including 2,776 shots and 265 weeks of work.

Effects supervisor Steve Emerson presented behind-the-scenes production statistics for Laika's upcoming stop-motion feature Wildwood at the View Conference in Turin, according to cartoonbrew.com.

The film took 265 weeks from the start of stage animation through visual effects delivery. Its production used 223 handcrafted puppets and 132 practical sets, along with 728 handmade trees representing 10 Pacific Northwest species.

The team also created 142,030 replacement faces. One shot required 1,124 individual facial replacements, which Emerson described as a stop-motion record.

Wildwood comprises 2,776 shots, compared with 1,486 shots for Laika's 2019 film Missing Link, which had been released before Emerson began working on Wildwood in February 2020. The team developed the film's animate ivy movement through physical experiments, including stop-motion tests and 240 fps footage of wires pulled from miniature trees played backward.
