Lindelof Says Hal Jordan Stays Dead in Lanterns, Not Involved in Season 2
Lanterns co-creator Damon Lindelof told Collider that Hal Jordan will not return, calling a resurrection "schmuck-baity," and confirmed he is not planning season 2.
Lanterns co-creator Damon Lindelof said in an interview with Collider that Hal Jordan will not return, stating that the character's death had to stick for it to be felt and that bringing him back would be "schmuck-baity." The comments address the fate of the character played by Kyle Chandler in the HBO series.
Lindelof also clarified that he is not involved in planning a second season of Lanterns. HBO has not formally greenlit a second season.
The first season of Lanterns wrapped up on HBO. The show introduced Hal Jordan and his trainee John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), who took over Hal's role by the end of the season. The pilot episode revealed that Hal Jordan dies.
In the finale, supervillain Sinestro (Ulrich Thomsen) suggested he could bring Hal Jordan back to life — a possibility Lindelof's comments appear to close off.
John Stewart will appear in Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to 2025's Superman movie. In the comics, Hal Jordan has died at least 3 or 4 times over the course of the canon.
