HBO's Lanterns ended its season with John Stewart charging his ring from Sinestro's Lantern, a device that carries yellow streaks, according to polygon.com. The finale is titled "Dirt and Stars."

In the episode, John uses Sinestro's Lantern to power his ring with a custom oath that references embracing fear.

Co-showrunner Tom King confirmed during a virtual press conference that the oath was inspired by Geoff Johns' Green Lantern run. King also said John "is not 100% a Green Lantern anymore" and now carries an unsanctioned Lantern with a bit of yellow in it. Sinestro forged the new Lantern on Antaan's home planet.

What came before

In episode 5, John turned down the ring after becoming disillusioned with the Guardians of the Universe. In Green Lantern comics, the Guardians imprisoned Parallax inside their Central Power Battery; Parallax later possessed Hal Jordan and caused him to murder most other Green Lanterns.
