Lanterns Showrunner Debunks Yellow Ring Theory for John Stewart
Chris Mundy confirmed the writers never considered turning John Stewart's ring yellow, and in the finale it glowed green while he recited a custom oath.
Chris Mundy, showrunner of HBO's Lanterns, has addressed speculation that John Stewart's newly forged ring could turn yellow. In an interview with comingsoon.net, Mundy confirmed the writers never discussed making the ring yellow or pursuing a Yellow Lantern twist.
In the Season 1 finale of Lanterns, John Stewart charged his ring while reciting a custom oath titled "Dirt and Stars." The ring glowed green during the charge. Stewart then declared himself Earth's new protector and summoned Guy Gardner to assist him.
Mundy's comments put to rest fan theories that the ring's forging—which occurred in Episode 7 on the devastated homeworld of Antaan—would lead to a yellow energy shift for the character.
In that earlier episode, Sinestro forged the lantern using water charged with both will and fear energy. The series also established that a fear-inducing gas drove an entire alien species to destroy itself on that planet.
HBO has not yet confirmed whether Lanterns will return for a second season. The series is produced by DC Studios.
