Lawrence Lamont to Direct Last Friday, With Ice Cube Writing and Starring

The fourth Friday film is in early development, with Ice Cube set to write, produce and star alongside producers Bob Teitel and Michael Gruber.

Lawrence Lamont has been selected to direct Last Friday, the fourth film in the Friday franchise, according to movieweb.com. Ice Cube will serve as writer, producer and star of the new installment.

Bob Teitel and Michael Gruber are producers on the film, and Jeff Kwatinetz is executive producer. The project is still in early development, and no release date has been announced.

The franchise began in 1995 with Friday, directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker; it became a cult classic. Two sequels, Next Friday and Friday After Next, followed in the early 2000s.

A fourth Friday film had been teased for years without confirmation until this announcement.

Lamont directed One of Them Days, released in 2025, which holds a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes more than a year after its release. His previous work also includes music videos for artists including Big Sean, and collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Nas and J. Cole.

The three existing Friday films are streaming on Pluto TV.
