Lee Child Outlines Three Possible Endings for Jack Reacher
The author told USA Today he has mapped out how the character could end, including a scrapped project called Die Lonely.
Lee Child has revealed three ways he could bring the Jack Reacher stories to a close. The author spoke about the possible endings in an interview with USA Today.
One scenario comes from a scrapped final project Child titled Die Lonely. In it, Reacher must choose between saving a stranger and dying in a motel bathroom.
Another ending would see Reacher board a bus with an unknown destination, with the story simply stopping there. In the third, Reacher pauses on the way to the bus depot, decides he likes the place and considers adopting a dog and renting an apartment.
Child, who is 71, created Jack Reacher in a novel series that has run to 31 books and sold over 100 million copies worldwide. The character has twice been played on film by Tom Cruise, and Alan Ritchson currently leads the Prime Video series Reacher.
