BBC and MGM+ have released a first look at Legacy of Spies, their upcoming eight-part thriller, as filming on the series has officially wrapped. The first-look image arrives ahead of a premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, with MGM+ set to release it in the US and several international markets.
Matthew Macfadyen leads the cast as George Smiley, with Charlie Hunnam playing Alec Leamas. The series adapts two John le Carré novels: his 1963 classic The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and his 2017 follow-up A Legacy of Spies.
The ensemble cast also includes Daniel Brühl, Felix Kammerer, Agnes O'Casey, Dan Stevens, Jake Dunn, Anjana Vasan, Charlotte Ritchie, Joe Alwyn and Hugh Laurie. Stephen Cornwell serves as showrunner, with Michael Lennox as lead director.
Production took place mainly in the Czech Republic, with additional locations in the UK and Germany. The series is produced by The Ink Factory, the company behind previous le Carré adaptations.
