Liam Hellmann's Directorial Debut Trafalgar Enters Post-Production

Fanny Ardant, Élodie Bouchez, Danny Huston and Stacy Martin lead the film, shot in 12 days on a €1.3 million budget for producer Charles Benoin.

Liam Hellmann's feature directorial debut, Trafalgar, is now in post-production, with Fanny Ardant, Élodie Bouchez, Danny Huston and Stacy Martin among the cast, according to Variety. Charles Benoin produces through his company Atlas Pictures.

The film was shot in 12 days on a €1.3 million budget, with financing drawn mainly from private investment and supported by the French tax credit. French, British and Italian crews worked on the production, with cinematographer Vladan Radovic among the key collaborators.

The cast also includes Lou Lampros as the girlfriend and Khaled Alouach as the best friend. Ardant plays the grandmother, Bouchez the mother, Martin the sister and Huston the estranged father.

The story follows a young man raised in a household dominated by women who goes looking for the father he never knew, and must raise €80,000 within a week to settle his father's debts. The actors worked from a seven-page outline rather than a conventional screenplay.

Hellmann had gone through roughly 60 versions of the script before setting the conventional format aside. Benoin said he met Hellmann six years ago, when the director first told him about Trafalgar.

Hellmann's previous producing work includes Only What We Carry, which he produced with Benoin; that film, starring Quentin Tarantino, premiered at Tribeca and screened at the Deauville American Film Festival in September 2025, with Simon Pegg and Sofia Boutella in attendance.
