Like a Photon Creative Unveils 7-Film Animated Slate With Sola Media
Sola Media takes international rights to all seven features, starting with the Ireland co-production Familiar, due to begin shooting in March 2027.
Like a Photon Creative has assembled a slate of seven new animated features, with Sola Media taking international distribution rights to all seven, the companies announced on November 6, 2026. Production finance comes from Elevate Production Finance and Alceon Entertainment Partners, and Maslow Entertainment will handle distribution in Australia and New Zealand.
The first title is Familiar, an in-house original to be made as a treaty co-production with Ireland's Elephant Goldfish. Production is expected to begin in March 2027. The film is set at Ironclaw Academy, a school for sorcerers' animal companions, and centres on a young cat named Josie.
The companies say the lineup could create up to 1,000 jobs in Australia and Ireland. Each of the seven features will be accompanied by short-form direct-to-consumer content made from footage not used in the films.
Pillow Fort due in early 2027
Sola Media will also handle international distribution for The Neverending Pillow Fort, directed by Allison Brownmoore and due in early 2027.
Separately, Like a Photon Creative has partnered with Screen Queensland on the Escalate: Feature Focus Writers Initiative for six Queensland screenwriters, with writers' rooms starting in February 2027. CEO Kristen Souvlis will attend the upcoming American Film Market, according to Variety.
