Amazon MGM Sets 'Lizard Music' for December 25, 2027

Benny Safdie directs Dwayne Johnson as an eccentric old man called The Chicken Man in the adaptation of Daniel Pinkwater's novel.

Amazon MGM Studios has dated its live-action/CGI hybrid Lizard Music for a theatrical release on December 25, 2027, according to Deadline. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as an eccentric old man nicknamed The Chicken Man and is directed by Benny Safdie.

Theo Clark Leber plays a boy who discovers a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing music. The cast also includes Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, Arya Parvathi, Regina Hall, Colman Domingo, Jeff Goldblum, Rachel McAdams, Andrew Dice Clay and David Krumholtz.

Safdie wrote the screenplay adaptation of Daniel Pinkwater's novel of the same name. Producers include Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt of UA, Safdie for Out for the Count Productions, Johnson for Seven Bucks Productions and David Koplan for Magnetic Fields Entertainment.

Johnson's transformation into the septuagenarian Chicken Man uses extensive makeup and prosthetics.

A crowded Christmas slot

The date puts the film in a busy holiday period. Disney/Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be released on December 17, 2027, alongside New Line's Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum and Lionsgate's sequel The Housemaid's Secret. Amazon MGM Studios' Ron Howard-directed Alone at Dawn, starring Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway, is also set to open on Christmas Day 2027, as is a Warner Bros. movie directed by Nancy Meyers.
