Madrid Sets Film Production Record With 71 Features in 2025

Madrid hosted the filming of 71 feature films in 2025, a new record for the city that surpasses the previous high of 47 set in 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Spanish capital also hosted 52 series during the same year.

The production boom continues next week, when Woody Allen is scheduled to begin shooting his latest untitled movie in Madrid. The city's financial backing for the project requires it to showcase Madrid through a certain percentage of exterior scenes.

Madrid's City Council has backed the sector through grants for film production, promotion and distribution that provided nearly €15 million between 2021 and March 2026. This year, the council also launched support for the development of series and miniseries.

The city has become a production base for international projects filming across Spain, including The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Its recent credits also include Money Heist and its spin-off Berlin, plus local titles such as La Bola Negra.

The sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria takes place this week in Madrid, putting the city's growing production hub status on display for the industry.
