CBS will not air new episodes in fall 2026; Jennie Snyder Urman asked for the delay to give the writers time to build the next storyline.
Matlock will not return in fall 2026, with CBS instead scheduling Season 3 for a midseason launch in 2027, according to Collider. The move comes at the request of series creator Jennie Snyder Urman.
Urman asked the network to place the third season in the midseason stretch of the schedule, saying the extra time gives her and the writing team room to craft the next storyline.
