McCartney queried Mescal's height in Beatles films, he says

Speaking on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, McCartney said he called Sam Mendes after seeing a still of the cast crossing Abbey Road.

Paul McCartney said he raised concerns with director Sam Mendes that Paul Mescal, who plays him in the upcoming Beatles films, looks markedly shorter than his co-stars, Deadline reported.

Speaking on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast, McCartney said he contacted Mendes about the height difference and was sent a still from filming of the cast crossing Abbey Road in which the Paul character appeared markedly smaller.

According to McCartney, Mendes replied that it was just the stride, and then sent another image in which the actors appeared equal in height.

Mescal leads the cast as McCartney, alongside Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.

In February 2026, Deadline reported exclusively that Mendes would direct each installment of The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event through Neal Street Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment. In August 2026, the cast re-created the Abbey Road album cover while filming in London.
