Martin McDonagh brought his latest film, Wild Horse Nine, to the Zurich Film Festival, where he presented the project and described it as his most political work to date. The film is a black comedy centered on two CIA agents who travel to Easter Island in the period before the 1973 Chilean coup.

McDonagh's path to filmmaking was hardly direct. He left school at 16 and spent a long stretch unemployed while hoping to make it as a writer. His early radio plays were rejected, mostly by the BBC.
His breakthrough came with the 2004 short film Six Shooter, which won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. Brendan Gleeson starred in that short and later appeared in McDonagh's In Bruges, alongside Colin Farrell, as two hitmen hiding out after a mission gone wrong.
McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri featured Frances McDormand as grieving mother Mildred Hayes.
