Andrea Romeo of Wonder Pictures said his dream would be a young female director, as industry figures discussed horror's rebound.

Horror industry figures discussed the genre's resurgence and the search for new filmmakers on a panel at the MIA Market in Rome on October 21, according to hollywoodreporter.com.

Andrea Romeo, founder and CEO of Wonder Pictures, said horror is no longer seen as niche and is now considered cool. He said his company is looking for the next Kane Parsons and Oz Perkins, as well as an Italian equivalent, and that a young female director would be his dream.

Rachael Labes, manager of acquisitions and productions for IFC's Shudder, said horror films that embrace comedy have brought in new audiences. Jonny Bunning, digital marketing manager for Signature Entertainment, said horror from new international filmmakers is connecting with audiences.

Italian director and screenwriter Roberto De Feo said the success of Obsession and Backrooms has helped Italian horror, citing Paolo Strippoli's The Spiral, which premiered in Venice and is potentially up for an Oscar.
