Michael Bay is in early talks to return as director of the next Transformers movie, according to Slashfilm. Steven Spielberg is also being courted to come back as producer on the film, and Jason Fuchs has written the script.
The film is set in the modern day. Bay has reportedly been negotiating for final cut on the project. No release date has been announced.
Bay stepped away from the franchise after Transformers: The Last Knight in 2017. Spielberg served as producer on the 2007 Transformers film, though his influence waned with each subsequent installment.
The two most recent entries, Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts, were set in the 1980s and 1990s respectively. A teased Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover now appears to be all but dead.
