Mike Flanagan's Carrie Series Streams on Prime Video

The eight-episode adaptation of Stephen King's 1970 novella is available now, with Thalia Dudek playing the new character Emaline.

Mike Flanagan's eight-episode series Carrie, adapted from Stephen King's 1970 novella, is now streaming on Prime Video. The series is set in 2026.

The show establishes that Carrie White is one of many women with similar psychic powers. In the series, one character refers to the shared power as "the Shine." In this version, Carrie survives the story.

The new character Emaline is played by Thalia Dudek. Emaline is revealed to be real and to have used astral projection to guide Carrie from a distance before appearing in person in the season 1 finale.

Flanagan, speaking in an interview with Polygon, said King had the most input into the character Emaline.

King's involvement

King originally published Carrie as a novella in 1970. It was his first book and originally had no connections to his broader shared universe. Flanagan spoke with King before agreeing to do the show, and King was intimately involved in deciding how to expand the universe.
