Mike Flanagan revealed that Stephen King gave his blessing to the new Carrie miniseries at Prime Video after the showrunner pitched fundamental changes to the story. Flanagan said he had told King he would not take on the adaptation without his express approval.

According to denofgeek.com, King initially asked Flanagan why he would adapt Carrie again, given that the novel had been brought to the screen before. Flanagan walked him through his proposal, and King, in Flanagan's account, got very excited and gave the project his blessing.

Summer H. Howell was cast as Carrie White after a search that screened more than 1,400 young actors. Samantha Sloyan and Amber Midthunder are also attached to the series.

An Adaptation With a History

Carrie was first published in 1974 as Stephen King's debut novel. It was adapted into a 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek, and remade in 2013 with Chloë Grace Moretz in the title role.

Flanagan has previously adapted King's work, including Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck.
