Mike Leigh Gets Standing Ovation at London Film Festival Premiere of Tender Loving Care

Tender Loving Care, starring Kate O'Flynn, Marion Bailey and Paul Jesson, screened Thursday at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the London Film Festival, according to Variety.

Mike Leigh received a standing ovation at the London Film Festival premiere of his film Tender Loving Care, which screened Thursday at the Royal Festival Hall, according to Variety.

Tender Loving Care stars Kate O'Flynn, Marion Bailey and Paul Jesson. The film is set and shot in London and explores aging, grief and relationships while criticizing the underfunded British health and welfare system.

The London screening follows earlier festival appearances for the film. Tender Loving Care premiered at Telluride, won the top prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival, and earned the best leading actor award for Kate O'Flynn.

Leigh previously said, speaking via video in San Sebastian, that the film was more than likely his final film due to his health issues. He has said he has a medical condition, myositis, which affects his muscular movement.

The London Film Festival has been a regular stop for Leigh's work. His Vera Drake opened the festival in 2004, Life Is Sweet had its world premiere there in 1990, his first feature Bleak Moments was brought to the festival in 1971, and Hard Truths screened at the festival last year.
