The Spanish drama, Claudia Estrada Tarascó's feature debut, will premiere in Valladolid's Meeting Point competition on Oct. 25.
MoreThan Films has acquired international sales rights to the Spanish drama 'Salen las lobas' ('The Bitch Pack'), the company said ahead of the film's world premiere at the Valladolid Film Festival (Seminci) on Oct. 25, according to Variety.
The film is Claudia Estrada Tarascó's feature debut and is selected for Valladolid's Meeting Point competition. The 71st edition of the festival runs Oct. 23-31, and 'Salen las lobas' is also part of Seminci Joven, the festival's youth-oriented program.
A Spain-Belgium-Denmark co-production produced by Alba Sotorra, the film marks the first feature under Sotorra's new banner Oceanika. Silencio Cinema will release it theatrically in Spain on Dec. 11.
The cast includes Valeria Estrada Tarascó as Luna, the director's sister; rap and trap artist Marrouch Laamarti, known as Huda; Vanessa Aisha Badji; Sara Martínez; Rosa Boladeras; and Alex Brendemühl as Luna's father.
Four years of research
The project previously won Atlàntida Film Fest's best fiction project award. Claudia Estrada Tarascó spent four years researching girls in juvenile detention and the legal proceedings they face, and the story draws on her sister Valeria's experience of entering a juvenile justice facility at the age of 14.
Sotorra previously produced 'The Return: Life After ISIS.' Paloma Productions, also credited on the film, counts Ruben Östlund's Palme d'Or winner 'Triangle of Sadness' among its credits.
