Mr. Irrelevant Screens for Giants Icons at New York Event

David Corenswet and director Jonathan Levine attended the New York screening, where Phil Simms moderated a Q&A with the filmmakers.

Mr. Irrelevant screened earlier this week at the New York Sports Legend Tastemaker event in New York City, according to Variety. The screening was followed by a Q&A moderated by former Giants quarterback Phil Simms.

Director Jonathan Levine and cast members David Corenswet, Isabel May, David Krumholtz and Michael Shannon were present at the event. Giants icons Leonard Marshall, Bill Ard and Amani Toomer also attended.

The film tells the story of John Tuggle, whom the New York Giants selected with the 335th pick of the 1983 NFL Draft, making him that year's Mr. Irrelevant. Tuggle played all 16 games for the Giants and was named the team's special teams player of the year. During the 1984 offseason, Tuggle, then 23, was diagnosed with angiosarcoma.

Production and background

The film was shot in Australia for roughly $30 million and is the first theatrical release from Skydance Sports' partnership with the NFL. Tom Cruise reportedly saw a cut of Mr. Irrelevant and was impressed enough to hire director Jonathan Levine for his Days of Thunder sequel, scheduled for 2028.

The Blind Side, released in 2009, grossed more than $255 million domestically and earned a best picture nomination.
