New Narnia Footage Shows Aslan Still a Male Lion Despite Streep Voice
Footage from Netflix's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew keeps Aslan's mane and male appearance after Meryl Streep was cast as his voice.
New footage from Netflix's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew shows Aslan with his mane intact, confirming the character remains a male lion in the film despite being voiced by Meryl Streep, according to screenrant.com.
The film is directed by Greta Gerwig, who also wrote the adaptation. It is scheduled for release on February 12, 2027.
Earlier first looks and teasers had already shown Aslan with one brown eye and one blue eye, alongside Streep's casting as his voice. That combination drew fan backlash over whether the character would be depicted as female.
The mid-2000s Chronicles of Narnia films, in which Aslan was voiced by Liam Neeson, had mixed reception but were popular. The new adaptation shifts the story's setting to the 1950s rather than the early 1900s.
