Weta FX CTO Kimball Thurston, filmmaker Kang Yun-sung and Netflix's Sung Q Lee discussed the benefits and limitations of AI tools in production workflows at Netflix's Creative Asia day at the Busan International Film Festival, according to Deadline.

Kang screened a teaser for Netflix's upcoming Korean-language action thriller Gulf Of Aden at the event. He said using AI tools on the film produced savings of 30-40% through reduced CGI costs and a simplified, shortened production process.

Thurston said Weta FX has been adopting AI at a measured pace, using it for image clean-up and crowd scene motion rather than image generation.
