Netflix Fires Film Chief Dan Lin; Peter Safran Among Reported Names to Replace Him

Netflix dismissed Dan Lin, and a Page Six report lists DC Studios co-head Peter Safran among possible successors. Warner Bros. and Paramount have also made their merger official.

Netflix has fired its film chief, Dan Lin, according to a report by Page Six. The same report lists Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios, among the names in line to replace Lin.

Safran currently leads DC Studios alongside James Gunn. The two were kept on to continue leading the division after the Warner Bros. and Paramount merger was made official.

The merger has also brought changes at Warner Bros. Skydance executives let go former Warner Bros. film heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy.

Netflix recently installed Peter Rice as its new chief of content. Rice was previously a Disney executive. The report also named Stacey Snider, Jeff Robinov and Emma Watts as possible candidates for the film chief position.

Background

In 2022, Gunn and Safran were hired to lead DC Studios as a new division at Warner Bros. That same year, Lin was in the running to head DC Films before it became DC Studios. In 2024, Gunn said on Threads that he had no interest in running DC until Safran decided to do it with him. Superman was released last year and was a hit, while Supergirl flopped at the box office earlier this year. Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to Superman, is in post-production.
