Netflix is planning a multi-category Oscar campaign for Lee Chang-dong's Possible Love, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with a particular focus on lobbying for a best actress nomination for Jeon Do-yeon.
The streamer is targeting nominations in best international feature, best picture, best director and best original screenplay. Sul Kyung-Gu will be promoted for best actor, Cho Yeo-jeong for best supporting actress and Zo In-sung for best supporting actor.
Netflix is also submitting the film to the Golden Globes in the drama categories and hopes it will land an Actor Awards nomination for best ensemble. The full cast of La Bola Negra is being promoted in the supporting acting categories.
Possible Love won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and placed second for the Toronto International Film Festival international audience award.
An eight-year return
Possible Love is Lee Chang-dong's first film in eight years. In August, Korea selected it as its official entry for the best international feature Oscar.
Jeon previously worked with Lee on 2007's Secret Sunshine, for which she became the first Korean to win the Cannes Film Festival's best actress prize. Seven award seasons ago, Parasite won the best picture Oscar, breaking the glass ceiling for non-English-language films.
