Netflix to Pursue More Third-Party Content Deals After TF1

Netflix says early TF1 metrics show incremental viewing in France, as the streamer looks to licensing and new partner models for growth.

Netflix will keep expanding its entertainment offering through licensing and new ways of bringing third-party content to its service, the company said after reporting its third-quarter results, pointing to its TF1 partnership in France as a model. The streamer's comments were reported by Deadline.

Netflix said it is pleased with the TF1 deal, whose early metrics indicate it is generating incremental viewing in France. The partnership brings scripted dramas such as Broceliande and Erica and France's version of The Voice to Netflix in France, alongside local series, film, news and sports programming.

The company described its audience as approaching one billion people. Netflix launched the TF1 partnership over the summer, bringing the French broadcaster's channels and on-demand content to subscribers.

Asked about growth in view hours, Netflix said engagement remains healthy while it looks to accelerate view-hour growth. It did not name specific future partners in the remarks cited by Deadline, where Peacock and Fox One were mentioned as possible candidates.

Netflix also cited recent local hits, including Plastic Beauty, which it said is on track to become its most-viewed series in Japan, and The Secret Woman, a Danish title trending as its most-viewed ever. The Mexican title El Chapo is set to become its second most-viewed globally, while The Perfect Lie is on track to be its most-viewed series out of the Netherlands.
