Nicolas Cage Says He Is Living in Hotels After Malibu Home Incident
Speaking at Los Angeles Comic Con on Halloween, Cage also confirmed his role in HBO's True Detective Season 5 and the Amazon MGM film Madden.
Nicolas Cage said at a Los Angeles Comic Con panel on Halloween that he is currently "a little bit homeless" and living in hotels, telling the audience that something happened to his house in Malibu. The actor also said he planned to take his daughter trick-or-treating in Santa Monica and then watch The Shining, according to Variety.
Cage did not give further details on the state of the Malibu property during the panel.
True Detective and Madden
At the same appearance, Cage said he is starring in Season 5 of HBO's True Detective alongside Antonio Banderas. He also said he stars as football coach John Madden in Amazon MGM's Madden, which opens on Nov. 11.
In September 2025, a sinkhole measuring 25 feet deep and 30 by 60 feet in diameter opened near the driveway of Cage's Malibu home, and 31 nearby homes were evacuated. Officials had not determined how the sinkhole formed but said it was likely caused by Hurricane Marie, which hit California in early September.
