Queer Media Panel: Kiyoko, Shankman Share Dream Projects
At Outfest's Saving Queer Media fundraiser, Hayley Kiyoko, Adam Shankman, Wash Westmoreland and Angela Robinson revealed their passion projects.
Four filmmakers shared their dream projects at a fundraiser for Outfest, the LGBTQ+ film festival, in a panel titled Saving Queer Media held at UTA in Beverly Hills.
Hayley Kiyoko, who made her directorial debut with Girls Like Girls, based on her novel and song, said her dream project is a queer take on Pirates of the Caribbean. She also hopes to adapt her second novel, Where There's Room for Us, into a film.
Adam Shankman named a film adaptation of the musical Spring Awakening as his dream project. An off-Broadway revival of the show begins previews on Nov. 27 and opens Dec. 17.
Wash Westmoreland said he wants to adapt Chris Bryant's book The Glamour Boys, while Angela Robinson has been working to bring D.E.B.S. to television as a series.
The event, reported by Variety, was a fundraiser for Outfest and brought the filmmakers together to discuss the future of queer storytelling.
