Percy Jackson Hits No. 2 on Netflix as Disney+ Shows Arrive

Netflix has started streaming Disney+ original shows, including Percy Jackson & the Olympians, under a licensing agreement between Netflix and Disney. The series reached the number 2 spot on Netflix the same day it became available on the service, according to Screen Rant.

The arrangement makes Disney+ originals available on Netflix, placing titles that were previously exclusive to Disney's own platform inside the library of its largest streaming competitor.

The licensing deal between the two companies was announced in October 2026. Percy Jackson & the Olympians originally premiered on Disney+ on December 19, 2023.

Competitive context

Netflix's Stranger Things became a mainstream hit, and rival services later launched comparable shows, including Prime Video's Tales from the Loop, Apple TV's Invasion and Hulu's Goosebumps. After Wednesday succeeded, Disney+ answered with Coven Academy, which holds a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

HBO's Game of Thrones franchise keeps a set of major series in that service's back catalog, while Apple TV's Foundation and Silo draw critical praise without matching the scale of Netflix and Disney franchises such as Percy Jackson & the Olympians or Stranger Things. Apple TV's Severance is a dark sci-fi satire, and 2023's Scooby-Doo reboot Velma was a high-profile misstep for HBO.
