Prince Charles Cinema Signs 25-Year Lease With Landlord
The London cinema has secured a new 25-year lease with Zedwell LSQ Ltd after 21 months of uncertainty, its management said.
The Prince Charles Cinema in London's West End has signed a new 25-year lease with its landlord, Zedwell LSQ Ltd, according to Deadline. The cinema's management said the deal was secured after 21 months of uncertainty.
The lease includes a no-break clause that locks both the landlord and the cinema in for its duration.
A petition to save the cinema gathered 168,645 signatures and counting. Westminster Council also designated the Prince Charles Cinema an Asset of Community Value on the recommendation of the Soho Society.
In early 2025, the cinema's management released a public statement saying it was under "serious threat" of closure. Its long-standing lease with Zedwell had been set to expire in September 2025.
Under UK law, the cinema's management was legally entitled to a new lease and applied for a minimum of 15 years at market rent on similar terms to the existing lease. Zedwell responded by asking to include a redevelopment break clause entitling it to terminate the lease at 6 months' notice at any time once the new lease commenced.
