BAFTA Panel Picks 'Rehearsals for a Revolution' as U.K. Oscar Entry
Pegah Ahangarani's documentary will represent the United Kingdom in the Best International Feature Film race at the upcoming Oscars.
Pegah Ahangarani's documentary Rehearsals for a Revolution has been selected as the United Kingdom's entry for Best International Feature Film at the upcoming Oscars, according to IndieWire. The film was chosen by a selection committee drawn from members of BAFTA's film committee.
The documentary was released in the U.K. in September and has spent the season on the festival circuit. It won the L'Oeil d'Or at Cannes and screened at both the Telluride Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
It also received an Albie Award from the Maysles Documentary Center, recognition that has put the film in the conversation across both documentary and international categories.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences changed its rules earlier this year so that nominees no longer need to be submitted by a country, though countries still make submissions. The shift opens the door for a film to compete in both Best Documentary and Best International Feature, as Romania's Collective, North Macedonia's Honeyland and Denmark's Flee have done in past years.
