Reza Rahadian's 'Casparina' Joins Busan's Asian Project Market

The Indonesian director's second feature, about journalist Francisca Casparina Fanggidaej, is in early scriptwriting as producers seek co-production partners in Busan.

Indonesian actor and director Reza Rahadian's second feature film as director, titled Casparina, is part of the Asian Project Market within the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents & Film Market, according to Variety.

The film is in the early stages of scriptwriting. In Busan, the producers hope to meet potential partners, collaborators, film funds and co-production opportunities.

Casparina centers on Francisca Casparina Fanggidaej, a journalist who was stripped of her Indonesian citizenship in 1965 while in Beijing representing Indonesia at an international forum.

She spent 32 years in exile, first in Beijing and later in the Netherlands, leaving six children behind before the family reconnected. The 1965 political upheaval in Indonesia involved the revocation of citizenship for those opposing the new regime.

Previous Busan success

Rahadian's first feature as director, On Your Lap, won four prizes at the Busan festival's Vision awards in 2025, including the audience award and the Fipresci award.
